Add Crowdfunding functionality into WooCommerce
A la kickstarter.
You could even start with the open source Catarse:
There are several 3rd party "solutions" for this, BUT THEY ALL (and I've looked at over 6) suffer from a major flaw.
The usual premise is to use variations for:
Reward 3 etc.
HOWEVER, that relies on attributes of a product called "Reward".
If rewards are:
and these are set as attributes, How can I add red/blue/white for the mugs and S/M/L/XL, M/F and red/white/blue for the t-shirts??? Current solutions need me to create a reward for each variation.
I might also want to use the same t-shirts and mugs for a different campaign. Yes I could replicate the product and apply copies to different campaigns.
There is, I believe, a relatively simple solution. It revolves around "campaign", where I can allocate any product to a campaign and the total "sales" of those campaign products is reflected in a "thermometer"/"progress bar"
Personally I would use this to "crowdfund" t-shirt design - one a week/month, but only if a set number of each design were purchased.
Need to use a gateway (stripe undoubtedly preferred!!!!!) that will allow payments to be taken a month or three later

I am currently using a beta version of a crowdfunding plugin for WooCommerce. Checkout http://ideas.sebs-studio.com for an example.
This is a great idea and this might convice two of my customers. At the moment, they're willing to choose Prestashop + a custom dev for the fundraising part.
Cheers and long live WooCommerce!
Catarse is written in Ruby, not PHP - so that's out of the question.
This could be a really important feature for WooCommerce. Check out Spot.us as well, which is an open-source, community funded journalism project.
