Currently, there is no ability to customise the Home page to display widgets which are only required on the Home page. For instance, anything you add to the widget container below the header appears on all of the product pages. The only way to stop them showing on product pages is by using 'display: none;' in CSS which is quite a sloppy tweak to be using for a theme. This should be an 'out of the box' feature really.
