Tino, great news: That's already possible!
The Storefront theme itself really shouldn't "do" a function that enhances or detracts. The theme should only handle the "displaying-of-information".
So, if you'll fire up the Visual Term Description Editor, and use that, you'll quickly see the TinyMCE editor appear enabling and empowering you to add h1 tags (and much more) to Storefront (and any other theme) category description.
Congratulations Mr Anonymous! Today's your lucky day. I'd like to introduce you to a gentleman by the name of James Koster and he has accomplished the amazing and incredible wizardry of allowing and empowering you, yes Y-O-U, to have your products display in a list. But wait, there's more! Click now and James will even throw in the ability for you to toggle between both the grid and the list layout at ~get this~ no additional charge! #whoop!
.......working on it ;-)
